Self Storage Forecast: Slowdown in Starts
In the first half of 2025, self storage construction starts continued their slowdown, declining 12.8% compared to the same period in 2024. That marked an improvement, however, from last year, when the decline was 22% over the same period the previous year. Looking forward, the Yardi Matrix development pipeline data indicates a continued tepid response, with the prospective pipeline declining while the deferred pipeline and number of projects abandoned remain elevated.
