Multifamily new supply muddles along
Construction starts have contracted from the 2022 and 2023 highs to a level at or slightly above pre-pandemic performance. Near-term new supply is forecast to fall to 478,239 units in 2026 and 443,051 units in 2027. For the later years, steady but unspectacular growth in new supply is forecast through the end of 2031.
