Renters absorbed more than 250,000 apartment units through May, with Austin, Texas, accounting for almost 9% of the total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The year-over-year national average advertised multifamily rent grew by 0.9% in June, led by Chicago; Columbus, Ohio; and Kansas City, Mo. Meanwhile, advertised rents for single-family build to rent units, while rising a modest 0.7% year-over-year in June, surpassed $2,200 for the first time that month. Chicago, Kansas City and California\u2019s Inland Empire were this segment\u2019s year-over-year rent growth leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The national multifamily report cites a Harvard Center for Joint Housing Studies report that documents increasingly strained housing budgets, with half of the country\u2019s renters spending more than 30% of their income on housing and utilities in 2023.
